Course #1 – 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Leveraging Low-Cost Video Production to Grow Your Business
Most business owners have all the tools they need to produce a high-quality video right in their pocket. That tool is your smartphone for both recording and editing. Whether you are using iOS or Android, video consultant, and award-winning educator, Kara Clayton will teach you what you need to know in order to get started in video production to grow your business.
You’ll learn:
- how to record a variety of shots on your device to engage your clients’ viewing experience.
- why a tripod can be your best friend.
- how to use natural light to enhance your images.
- advantages and constraints when recording on a tablet, a camcorder, and a Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera.
- tips for recording high-quality audio.
- moving your recorded footage to an editing platform.

Course #2 – 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Tell Your (Entrepreneurial) Story in Six Shots
This course is designed to give participants an overview of effective camera composition while teaching basic editing techniques.
You’ll learn:
- storyboarding and scriptwriting basics.
- basic shot composition – including close-up, medium, wide, high-angle, low-angle and over the shoulder.
- how to do video editing – including adding titles and basic transitions.
- how to share your finished videos on social media.
Participants will edit using a free (with watermark) editing software called WeVideo, or if they have Apple devices, they can edit in iMovie.
To get the maximum value from this workshop, participants should bring their smartphone or video camera with camera batteries fully charged, as well as a fully-charged laptop or tablet. Participants should be familiar with basic recording functions on their device BEFORE attending the workshop.
June 5, 2019
Course #3 – 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Writing and Producing Your Company’s Promotional Video
You’ve learned the basics of video production and now it’s time to take it to the next level. This workshop is designed to give you the time and coaching you need to write a draft of your first video production script and plan all of the visual and audio elements for your video.
You will:
- Analyze a few commercials and promotional videos for their structure and effective marketing techniques.
- Learn about effective persuasive language to use in your script.
- Pitch your script idea to workshop participants and get feedback.
- Write a thirty second to one minute persuasive script.
- You will plan visuals and audio elements for your script.
- You will be introduced to free stock footage, music and sound effects sources to use in your video.
You will record your own footage between Course #3 and Course #4.
Kara will hold an optional virtual meeting to provide feedback on footage between Course #3 and Course #4.
To get the maximum value from this workshop, participants should bring their fully-charged laptop or tablet.

Course #4 – 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Editing and Finalizing Your Company’s Promotional Video
Now that all of your footage is recorded, it’s time to put all of the elements together to create your finished video. The fourth course in this series is designed to help you edit your video so that you can share it on social media in order to increase leads and sales.
Before attending Course #4 you will have:
- written your script.
- recorded your audio elements like voice-over and testimonials.
- recorded and culled through your video.
- chosen stock footage.
- chosen music and/or sound effects.
During this course you will:
- set up a video timeline in WeVideo (watermark included) or iMovie.
- trim all video and audio elements.
- add titles/graphics.
- add transitions.
- color correct.
- adjust audio levels.
- finalize and share your video.
- celebrate with popcorn and a screening of all promotional videos produced during the course.
To get the maximum value from this workshop, participants should bring recorded footage as well as a fully-charged laptop or tablet.
